UNIQLO

Beginning in 2022, UNIQLO launched the Fast Forward Scholarship and Retail Training Program to support New York City’s District 75.

This year, the $15,000 grant, designed to assist college-bound seniors who have positively contributed to the improvement of their community, will be distributed among five graduates, to help with costs associated with the first year of college.

Additionally, the Fast Forward Training Program received a full revamp, inclusive of a donated mock-store classroom at the NYC Department of Education - District 75 Transition and Post Secondary Planning Options Program, providing students with a safe, supportive space to learn through experience. The new setup allows for extended hands-on training where students build practical customer service skills, practice communication, and get firsthand experience in a simulated retail environment. This summer, seven students spent six weeks in the mock-store classroom, diving into UNIQLO’s philosophy, participating in store visits, and receiving hands-on training led by UNIQLO Store Managers and a District appointed educator.

“We’re looking to change the narrative and provide gateway to employment for our students. UNIQLO’s philosophy of employing persons with disabilities is in line with our goal of providing employment opportunities and training for students. It's a win-win situation for both of us”

Patrick Smith, Fast Forward Training Program - Lead Teacher NYC District 75

As part of the revamped program, students also have the opportunity to interview for internships at our flagship stores following the training program. For many, it's their first formal interview.

“At UNIQLO, we believe sustainability is not just about the environment, but about people and that as a for-profit corporation that relies on people for both revenue and staff, it is our responsibility to contribute however we can, especially where we do business. The Fast Forward program reflects our commitment to creating a more inclusive society and city by investing in the potential of every individual.”

Jean Shein, Global Director of Sustainability, UNIQLO

In June, UNIQLO was honored by The District 75 Office of Transition Services and Postsecondary Planning for its commitment to supporting retail-focused career training opportunities for students in District 75, which provides highly specialized education for students with disabilities.

Since its inception, UNIQLO USA’s Fast Forward program has been a cornerstone of our commitment to community empowerment and workforce development. Born out of a partnership between UNIQLO USA and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities in New York City, the program provides students with learning disabilities with hands-on career readiness experiences designed to accelerate their personal and professional growth.
