A STUDENT & PARENT PROGRAM
We invite students between the ages of 14 and 22 years and their families who are interested in learning about traveling safely in different environments to join us.
Does your child want to develop more independence skills as he/she prepares for success both in and out of school?
We have a great opportunity for both students and parents!! Students who attend the District 75 Journey to Independence Training—a pre-travel training program—will learn about and work on improving the skills necessary for moving independently in their environments/communities.
Skills taught will include:
• Carrying and using identification
• Becoming aware of environmental obstacles and dangers
• Decision making and problem-solving skills
• Safety skills when crossing streets
• Using maps to improve travel skills
Parents will learn about ways to promote independence and safety at home and how to provide opportunities for students to develop pre-travel and mobility skills. Other informational sessions and resources will be available to parents.
